Operation
The following steps should be taken to operate a product in its basic, factory default mode.
| 1. Fit the product to the vehicle with the cable connections facing the rear of the vehicle. The LEDs should be to the left and the antenna connections to the right for normal, level operation. If you have ordered an RT-Strut then you will need to use the configuration software to change the default orientation of the RT3000, see manual for details.
2. Connect the User Cable. | |

3. Connect the GPS Antenna Cable. For simple operation of dual antenna models connect to the primary (top) antenna connection and do not use the secondary antenna. Setting up the secondary antenna requires more attention to detail than the primary antenna systems do. 4. Secure the GPS antenna on the top of the vehicle where it has a clear view of the sky and is not obstructed at any angle by masts, aerials or other high objects. For best results before configuration, try to keep the antenna roughly vertically above the RT3000 family product. The products are delivered expecting the antenna to be 1m above the unit with no X- or Y-axis displacement; it will also assume that these measurements are accurate to about 0.5m. |

5. Use the Null Modem Cable to connect J2 of the User Cable to a serial port on a laptop computer. Run the program ENGINUITY.EXE, it can be run directly from the CD.
6. Apply power to the unit. The bottom LED will turn green to show that power has been applied. Wait for the top LED to flash red – this will happen when the operating system has booted and will take about 30 seconds. Wait for the top LED to turn permanently red – this will happen when the GPS receiver has found sufficient satellites to provide valid time, position and velocity and will take between 60 seconds and 20 minutes from power-on. It is very rare for the GPS to take 20 minutes to find satellites; the typical lock time is less than 90 seconds, though if the unit has just been shipped from another part of the world then lock-time will increase. |

7. Accelerate gently in a forward direction. The unit will initialise and start to output data once the speed of the vehicle exceeds about 5m/s (18 km/h). The top LED will turn orange if real-time data is not yet available and then turn green after 10 seconds when the outputs are real-time and the latency is within specification. |
The unit is now operating. Full specification will not be achieved within the first 15 minutes of operation. During this time dynamic vehicle manoeuvres will help the system achieve full specification.
