OxTS has been awarded a contract to supply NHTSA, a division of the US Department of Transportation, with its RT-Range measurement systems. NHTSA will use the RT-Range systems to develop standardised tests for the development of advanced driver assistance systems, such as Forward Collision Warning or Lane Departure Warning.
This sophisticated measurement system was specifically designed to test and verify the accuracy of sensors used by many driver assistance systems. An RT-Range system not only measures the relative distance between two or more vehicles but also their position within the lane with high accuracy. These unique measurement systems output all measurements of a “Hunter” and a “Target” vehicle in real-time and with stunning precision. A CAN bus output allows direct connection to existing data acquisition systems. The position of a vehicle can be measured with up to 2cm position accuracy and speed measurements are accurate to 0.05 km/h, which is essential for testing advanced driver assistance systems.
Many car manufacturers rely on the RT-Range systems to develop new driving aids and collision mitigation features. That is because tests can be performed with high accuracy and maximum repeatability but also because the quick configuration and easy set-up can save valuable time for testing. The RT-Range even allows testing with multiple vehicles, balloon cars, and car-to-pedestrian tracking with a unique RT-Backpack system.
The RT-Range represents a turnkey solution that allows car manufacturers to reproduce all possible traffic scenarios to test driver assistance features with ease, high accuracy and impressive repeatability.
