By implementing standards for HGVs as well as commercial cars, Euro NCAP is addressing a major gap in its efforts to improve road safety.\u00a0Despite only accounting for 3% of the vehicles on Europe\u2019s roads, trucks are involved in almost 15% of all EU road fatalities, while accidents between trucks and vulnerable road users (VRUs) make up 25% of all EU fatalities.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Beyond the goal of road safety, the implementation of\u00a0star ratings for HGVs will give customers a new way to assess which trucks to choose when building their fleets.\u00a0Simply put, customers know that if their fleets are involved in accidents,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0bad for their brands; with that in mind, safety will be a major\u00a0component\u00a0of any buying decision. As a result, the Euro NCAP star rating of your\u00a0trucks will become a vital piece of information for any purchase decision. But\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0only half the story. The main driver of this process is the cost of testing at a test house \u2013 the full suite of tests can cost\u00a0hundreds of thousands of pounds. With that in mind, it makes sense\u00a0to be as confident of the performance of your vehicle before you book any time in the test house.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It\u2019s\u00a0also worth noting that some Euro NCAP test protocols are also going to focus on real-world performance, rather than just data gathered on the test track.
