OxTS celebrates 20 years of success and looks ahead to an even brighter future

Company News August 9, 2018

Oxford Technical Solutions marks its 20th anniversary

This April marked the 20th anniversary of the founding of OxTS, the Oxfordshire-based company that has become a market leader in the field of GNSS-aided inertial navigation systems (INS) supplying global car manufacturers with its products for testing driver assistance systems and self-driving vehicles.

With 20 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of automotive testing equipment, OxTS has built a solid reputation producing highly accurate GNSS-INS measuring devices. Today these are used by almost all of the leading car manufacturers for the development of the safety systems that have done so much to reduce fatalities and serious injuries in road accidents, as well as for the testing and evaluation of vehicle dynamics, ADAS technologies and autonomous driving functions. Beyond the automotive sector, OxTS’ technology has been embraced by the commercial surveying and mapping industry for a variety of data collection applications.

OxTS’ range of high-quality products are recognised around the world not only for their ability to capture precise and reliable data but also for being both robust and future-proof.

Oxford University graduates Dr. Alex Nairac and Brendan Watts set up OxTS on 1st April 1998. From humble beginnings in a converted postroom at Heyford Park’s Cherwell Innovation Centre, OxTS has enjoyed continuous year-on-year growth since its inception. It now occupies much larger premises, both at the Heyford Park site, where its products are manufactured, and in nearby Middleton Stoney, where its commercial and engineering departments are based. It has also recently opened a subsidiary in the US, and further international expansion is planned.

The company has doubled in size in the past five years in terms of both sales and staff, and it is looking to do the same again in the next five years. Today it employs almost 70 people in the UK and is actively recruiting more staff to cope with the growth the company is currently experiencing.

Despite its success, OxTS prides itself on its ‘small company’ feel. This benefits not only its employees, who enjoy an excellent work environment and the opportunity to progress within a friendly, collaborative team, but also its customers, who receive a personalised service and aftersales and technical support that is second to none. OxTS is also able to collaborate with clients on custom projects in order to develop an end product that is tailored exactly to the customer’s needs.
