Hot on the heels of our last release, we’re delighted to announce that version 1.5 of our LiDAR georeferening software OxTS Georeferencer is now available to buy.
The latest release of OxTS Georefererencer sees the introduction of Livox to the ever-growing list of LiDAR families now available within the software. The latest update also includes another addition to the long list of Velodyne sensors already integrated.
Industries such as autonomous driving, robots, 3D mapping, smart cities, safety and more use Livox LiDAR sensors regularly.
The latest release of OxTS Georeferencer will see the integration of the Livox Mid-40, the Mid-70 and the Avia. Alongside the Livox sensors the Velodyne HDL32 will also be available.

LiDAR georeferencing software
LiDAR georeferencing software allows surveyors to combine inertial data from an Inertial Navigation System (INS) with raw LiDAR data. This combination, when done correctly, enables the creation of 3D pointclouds.
3D pointclouds are useful for a wide variety of applications. In road survey applications they can determine road degradation over time. In coastal survey applications a pointcloud is useful to measure erosion and in a powerline survey pointclouds can help ensure overgrown foliage doesn’t encroach the lines. There is an almost endless list of possible use cases.
To make these applications a reality, the pointclouds need to be accurate. Without an accurate INS working alongside the LiDAR, the pointcloud won’t be as precise as it can be. Inertial Navigation Systems, like the xNAV650, output highly accurate position and inertial measurements. In conclusion, these measurements combined with raw LiDAR data, using LiDAR georeferencing software like OxTS Georeferencer, produces the most accurate, dynamic pointclouds possible.
What is OxTS Georeferencer?
OxTS Georeferencer is OxTS’ expertly developed LiDAR georeferencing software.
The software intelligently combines data from any OxTS Survey Inertial Navigation System with the data from a wide range of LiDAR sensors to create a georeferenced 3D pointcloud and improve pointcloud accuracy.
OxTS Georeferencer is packed full of useful features that allow surveyors to focus on what they’re good at….surveying.
These features allow surveyors to;
- Take advantage of a data-driven approach to LiDAR and INS device calibration with OxTS’ optional Boresight Calibration tool. By using data surveyors can speed up the time taken to calibrate device angles.
- Quickly and easily input the correct relative rotation angles with an intuitive 3D hardware set-up viewer.
- Choose the start and end times of the survey with the time overlap chart and gain the flexibility to decide which parts to view/show.
- Easily analyse survey accuracy and edit out inaccurate points to present only the most accurate areas of the survey. Alternatively, use the accuracy diagnostics feature to decide where to resurvey.
New LiDAR integrations
The release of OxTS Georeferencer 1.5 sees the introduction of three Livox LiDAR sensors and the Velodyne HDL32.

Livox Avia
The Livox Avia adjusts its detection range according to the intensity of ambient light, while maintaining noise at a low level. The detection range increases to 450 m under low-light conditions (such as on a cloudy day, indoors or at night), ensuring distant objects are captured in detail.
The use of multi-line laser and high-speed scanning enable the Livox Avia to achieve a pointcloud data rate of up to 240,000 points/s. The high performance device is equipped with both repetitive and non-repetitive scanning modes, to meet the needs of different scenarios.
Livox Mid-40
The Mid series features advanced optical design to reliably detect objects within a 260-meter range. The Mid-40 has a sample rate of 100,000 points per second and a random angular accuracy of less than 0.05°. The circular field of view of the Mid-40 is 38.4°, while the Mid-100—a combination of three Mid-40 sensors—has an expanded circular FOV of 98.4°.
Livox Mid-70
The Mid-70’s circular field of view extends to 70.4° both horizontally and vertically, and the minimum detection range is reduced to only 5 cm. The wider viewing angle and smaller blind zone enables the system to better explore the surrounding environment and efficiently detect and avoid small objects. This advancement in increasing viewing angle while reducing the blind zone opens up the autonomous-driving system increase safety when used in a multitude of use applications and places such as airports, malls, hospitals, and other crowded and complex environments.
Velodyne HDL-32
The HDL-32E generates a pointcloud of up to 695,000 points per second with a range of up to 100 m and a typical accuracy of ±2 cm. The resulting comprehensive pointcloud coverage within a single data stream makes the HDL-32E an indispensable part of any sensor suite.

The integration of the new Livox sensors, alongside the Velodyne HDL32 takes the number of supported sensors up to over 20.
