Warehouse autonomy

Moving beyond navigation infrastructure

In order to adapt to changing market conditions and to capitalise on new opportunities, warehousing organisations need to be free to adapt their warehousing space to suit varied and changing needs. This impacts the autonomous mobile robots (AMR)s that many warehousing organisations use, as the infrastructure-based localisation solutions they currently use would limit the versatility of the warehousing space.

There are a range of different localisation technologies available to next-gen warehousing AMRs, all of which offer a different set of benefits, drawbacks, and balances of performance and cost.

The OXTS solution for autonomous warehouses

The future of infrastructureless autonomous navigation lies in real-time sensor fusion – taking data from perception sensors and processing it in real time to provide accurate localisation data. OXTS GNSS/INS devices are able to switch seamlessly between GNSS data outdoors and real-time localisation using LiDAR when indoors, giving you a robust and accurate localisation solution that’s easy to integrate into a robotic control stack.

  • Smooth, high-quality PNT data from ITAR-free hardware
Our GNSS/INS devices use careful calibration, sophisticated sensor fusion and an advanced navigation engine to deliver highly reliable data in a variety of environments.
  • Autonomy-specific features
Unlock specific capabilities in your GNSS/INS such as Hot Start initialisation, PTP synchronisation, and our unique LiDAR Boost technology that enables seamless GNSS-denied navigation.
  • Software to make your project easier
As well as our free NAVsuite applications for configuring and monitoring your GNSS/INS during build and test, we have autonomy-specific tools including ROS2 drivers designed to remove complexity from your project.

GNSS/INS features for autonomous mining trucks

To create an attractive and commercially viable warehouse AMR you need robust navigation and user-friendly features. The following optional features can be enabled on OXTS GNSS/INS devices for autonomous navigation:

  • LiDAR Boost – Real time localisation data from a connected LiDAR enables seamless navigation in areas with patchy or no GNSS signal, and transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • gx/ix tight-coupling – Speeds up RTK reacquisition after transient but complete GNSS outage meaning more accurate navigation data for longer (see example below).
  • Hot Start initialisation – enables your INS to initialise while stationary, even without a GNSS signal, so your AMR can initialise indoors – or underground.
  • PTP and gPTP time synchronisation – master and client functionality makes it easier to integrate your GNSS/INS into an existing system.
  • UCOM data messaging – gives you more control over your data outputs to simplify your architecture, increase safety, and more.

gx/ix™ tight-coupling processing

An OXTS INS can integrate single-satellite aiding data into its navigation solution, and reduce the time taken to reacquire RTK lock, in real time. Using NAVSolve, you can reprocess your raw data and still benefit from gx/ix tight-coupling processing.
